Highlights of Monday’s games across the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system and a look ahead to Tuesday’s action.

The Cardinals minor league system was 1-1 on Monday. The Springfield Cardinals game was postponed while the Peoria Chiefs had Monday off. Our Player of the Day is Memphis first baseman David Washington with two hits, two walks, and a stolen base.

Memphis Redbirds 5, Sacramento River Cats 1

Mike Mayers made his 2016 Triple-A debut Monday and did not disappoint, tossing 5-1/3 innings of one-run baseball. Reliever Ryan Sherriff (1.45 ERA) followed with 1 2/3 innings, striking out two. Miguel Socolovich and Juan Gonzalez pitched a pair of scoreless innings to end the game, both striking out two River Cats.

The Redbirds (15-20) offense was led by hot-hitting David Washington (.309 BA). Washington went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a stolen base. Catcher Michael Ohlman (.290 BA) went 2-for-3 with a double. Dean Anna and Nick Martini both had two hits in four at-bats, Anna with a double.

Springfield vs. Tulsa rained out

The Springfield Cardinals (20-16) game was postponed due to weather. It will be made up on Wednesday, May 18th.

Tuesday’s game: vs. Tulsa, Kurt Heyer (1-2, 3.63 ERA) 6:30 CT

Palm Beach Cardinals 1, Lakeland Flying Tigers 5

Palm Beach began a four-game home series with Lakeland Monday and fell short in a 5-1 loss. The Beach Birds are now 15-24 on the season with a 1-15 May record.

Starter Jacob Evans (2.11 ERA), tossed seven innings, giving up four runs, none earned, while striking out two. Third baseman Joey Hawkins committed two errors and shortstop Oscar Mercado’s throwing miscue was his 11th of the season. In his 2016 Palm Beach debut, Harley Holt finished with two innings in relief, yielding the final run.

Left fielder Cole Lankford had the only multi-hit game for the Cardinals, going 2-for-4. Vaughn Bryan (.244 BA), batting leadoff, went 1-for-3 with a walk, stole a base, and scored the only run, driven in by Blake Drake. Casey Grayson also went 1-for-3 with a free pass.

Tuesday’s game: vs. Lakeland, Matt Pearce (3-1, 2.72 ERA) 6:30 CT

Peoria was off

The Peoria Chiefs (18-18) had the day off Monday.

Tuesday’s game: at Kane County, Sandy Alcantara (3-2, 3.95 ERA) 6:30 CT
