Swauger on Cards Red Extended Spring – Part 2

One of two team managers in St. Louis Cardinals extended spring training discusses many of his young infielders and outfielders.

As St. Louis Cardinals extended spring training camp in Jupiter, Florida is now more than half completed, coaches have a very good reading on their young players – including a group who are competing in the U.S. for the first time.

In Part 1 of this three-part interview, the manager of the “Red” team, Chris Swauger, discussed many of the pitchers on his squad.

Here in Part 2, his remarks move to infielders and outfielders. Among those covered in this 14-minute, in-depth segment are younger players Starlin Balbuena, Edwin Figuera, Luis Flores, Carlos Rodriguez, Sanel Rosendo and Wadye Ynfante as well as several standouts from the 2015 Gulf Coast League Cardinals including league MVP Allen Cordoba and third baseman Bryce Denton.

Part 3, yet to come, will cover catchers and some general development topics. Throughout, the focus of player development – to help players improve – comes across loud and clear.
