Highlights of Monday’s games across the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system and a look ahead to Tuesday’s action.

The Cardinals minor league system was 1-1 on Monday with Springfield and Peoria off, while Palm Beach’s game was postponed due to weather. Our Player of the Day is Memphis shortstop Matt Williams, who went 2-for-2 with three walks and a run scored.

Memphis Redbirds 6 at Iowa Cubs 2

The Redbirds (23-32) got an efficient start from Deck McGuire on Monday as he went five innings, striking out six and giving up two runs. Ryan Sherriff (1.59 ERA) added 1-1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Miguel Socolovich (2.52 ERA) contributed an uneventful 1-2/3 innings, striking out one. Sam Tuivailala (4.35 ERA) finished the game off with a scoreless ninth, also striking out one.

The Redbirds offense was firing on all cylinders as ten different players securing hits among the 12 total. Among the standouts were newcomer Breyvic Valera, who went 2-for-2 with a double and Matt Williams, who also had two hits in two at-bats, along with three bases-on-balls. Tommy Pham singled in his pinch-hit opportunity in the top of the sixth. Tilson, Wisdom, and Valera each stole a base.

Tuesday’s game: at Iowa, Alex Reyes (1-0, 1.80 ERA) 12:08 PM CT

The first-place Springfield Cardinals were off Monday.

Tuesday’s game: vs. Arkansas, Daniel Poncedeleon (3-4, 3.42 ERA) 6:30 PM CT

The Palm Beach Cardinals’ home game against Dunedin was canceled on Monday.

Tuesday’s game: Off-day on Tuesday.

The Peoria Chiefs had the day off Monday.

The Chiefs travel to Burlington for a four-game series starting on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game: Game 1: at Burlington, 5:00 PM CT, Game 2: at Burlington (PPD from 4/8), Junior Fernandez (5-3, 2.94) / Ryan Helsley (4-1, 3.38)

DSL Cardinals 5 at DSL Rockies 6 (12 innings)

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (1-1) lost Monday in a 12 inning affair.

Starter Diego Cordero went five innings, giving up three runs, none earned, on four hits while striking out five. The duo of pitchers following, Brian Pirela and Fabian Blanc, giving up a run apiece in two innings. Wilman Madera pitched a scoreless 10th and 11th inning before relinquishing a double in the 12th inning that scored on a single after Cristhian Lugo relieved Madera.

The Cardinals offense came away with a three-run sixth inning and added a tally in the ninth to send the game into extra innings, but it wasn’t enough. Right fielder Brian Sanchez was 2-for-4, driving in two runs. Shortstop Raffy Ozuna added three walks while first baseman Dariel Gomez added a double.

Tuesday’s game: at DSL Tigers, TBA 10:30 AM ET
