St. Louis Cardinals press release

The St. Louis Cardinals announced Thursday that they have agreed to terms with six players on minor league contracts, including their 2016 fifth round selection (166th player overall) Walker Robbins, an outfielder from George County (Miss.) High School.   The team also announced that they have come to terms with draftees Stefan Trosclair (20th round) and Noel Gonzalez (29th round).  In addition, the team has added non-drafted free-agent pitchers Keaton Siomkin, Ross Vance and Colton Thomson.

The team announced Wednesday that they had reached agreements with 20 players, including first round selection (33rd overall) Dylan Carlson.

Brian Walton’s take

The Cardinals used up almost $135,000 of their draft pool cushion by signing Robbins for $450,000 (reported by Jim Callis of MLB.com), compared to his slot value of $315,600. With six of their 12 draft picks taken through round 10 now signed, the organization has approximately $500,000 of extra pool money to potentially reallocate to the unsigned.

At this time, the Cardinals have signatures on contracts from 22 of their 42 draftees. Top pick Delvin Perez has arrived in St. Louis and is expected to formally close his deal with the team on Friday.
