St. Louis Cardinals press release
Moss is leading the team with 17 home runs (T12th in the National League) and has driven in 40 runs, fifth-most on the team. He has appeared in 75 games and since June 1 is batting .307 (27-88) with eight home runs, 16 RBI and a .705 slugging pct.
Grichuk was optioned to Triple-A on June 18, and has five homers with 15 RBI in the 15 games since his option. Grichuk was batting .206 (42-for-204) with 8 home runs and 27 RBI in 62 games in St. Louis before his option.
Brian Walton’s take
Grichuk was probably the best alternative to fill the opening, but taking pitches was clearly not his motive at Memphis. The right-handed batter drew just one walk in 55 plate appearances, leading to a less than exciting .291 on-base mark. Grichuk fanned 13 times for a 23.6 strikeout percent rate. That is very close to his 24 percent whiff rate with St. Louis to open the season.
His overall slash line with Memphis was .283/.291/.623/.914.
Defensively, it is unclear where Grichuk will fit with Tommy Pham and Kolten Wong having shared time in center field in his absence.
Memphis has not yet announced its roster addition to replace Grichuk.
