Siegrist, who will turn 27 next Wednesday (July 20), has been out since June 30 with mononucleosis.  The Cardinals hurler was 5-2 with a 2.78 ERA and one save in 35 relief appearances this season covering 32.1 innings with 34 strikeouts at the time of his placement on the disabled list.  He is tied for the National League lead among relief pitchers with five wins.

Tuivailala, 23, made three relief appearances from July 3-6, allowing three runs over 2.0 innings total with two scoreless appearances against the Pirates.

Brian Walton’s take

The moves were expected with the primary open question being what role Siegrist will play. Will he pitch the eighth in front of Seung-hwan Oh or the seventh in front of Oh and Trevor Rosenthal?

Memphis has not yet announced its roster move to make room for the return of Tuivailala.
