With playoffs looming for several clubs, the St. Louis Cardinals are shifting minor league pitchers.

Shaban Promoted

Relief pitcher Ronnie Shaban has been assigned to the Memphis Redbirds from Springfield Cardinals. The 26-year-old first reached Double-A in 2014, but will be making his Triple-A debut.

This season with Springfield, Shaban has a 3.11 ERA in 55 innings over 42 appearances. The right-hander struck out 40 and walked 16. Texas League batters hit a collective .251 against him.

Memphis was down a player on its active roster so no other moves were required. Sam Tuivailala, bumped down from St. Louis earlier in the day, had pitched Thursday night, so a fresh arm may be especially welcome.

Perry Parked

Springfield placed reliever Chris Perry on the seven-day disabled list. The 26-year-old, who has been with the Double-A club all season, has a 3.37 ERA over 37 appearances totaling 53 1/3 innings.

The right-hander struck out 60, but walked 40. Perry held Texas League hitters to a collective .184 batting average this season.

Nielsen Returns

Springfield activated starting pitcher Trey Nielsen from the seven-day disabled list. Out for the last three weeks, the 24-year-old has made 19 starts with Springfield and one spot start with Memphis.

In 2016, the right-hander has thrown 119 innings, posting a 3.86 ERA to go with 78 strikeouts and 40 walks. Nielsen is The Cardinal Nation’s 28th-ranked prospect.

McKnight Moves Up

Right-handed pitcher Blake McKnight has been promoted to Springfield from Palm Beach. The 25-year-old from O’Fallon, MO has been with the Beach Birds all season.

McKnight has made 11 starts and 22 relief appearances in 2016, logging a 3.11 ERA. He walked more batters, 40, than he struck out, 37, in 92 2/3 Florida State League innings.

Nielsen and McKnight replace Shaban and Terry on the Double-A Cardinals’ active roster.

Anderson Active

Palm Beach activated pitcher Will Anderson from the 60-day disabled list. Out since last summer with shoulder issues, the 24-year-old made seven appearances in the Gulf Coast League earlier this month to pitch his way back into shape.

In the GCL, the right-hander allowed just two earned runs in nine innings, striking out six and walking none.

Anderson essentially takes McKnight’s spot on Palm Beach’s active roster.
