Walden and Diaz Ready to Roll

Two St. Louis Cardinals players, pitcher Jordan Walden and shortstop Aledmys Diaz, have been sent on rehab assignments to high-A Palm Beach. The Florida State League club has three weekend games remaining in its season.

Reliever Walden (shoulder) has been out all season with several prior rehab plans ended before they began. Shortstop Diaz went on the DL on August 2 with a thumb injury.

Rivera Moved Up

The Cardinals promoted catcher Chris Rivera to Memphis on Saturday. The reason is unclear with the roster already full at 25. Other Redbirds catchers are Carson Kelly and 40-man backstop Michael Ohlman.

Garcia Bounced Back

Having been returned to Johnson City from Palm Beach exactly one week before, catcher Erik Garcia made the return trip on Saturday, rejoining the Beach Birds for the final three games of the Florida State League season.

Having only made the field for one game for Palm Beach, Garcia is 0-for-3 with an RBI. At Johnson City, the 23-year-old is batting just .213.
