Though the St. Louis Cardinals instructional league camp was closed early due to Hurricane Matthew, plenty was accomplished beforehand. In my visit there last week, I took hundreds of photos, with some of the following among my favorites.

Randy Arozarena (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

Randy Arozarena was an infielder and outfielder in Cuba and Mexico, but the Cardinals are having the 21-year-old concentrate on the outfield.

Here, Arozarena takes an at-bat.

Starlin Balbuena (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

Starlin Balbuena played the hot corner for the Gulf Coast League Cardinals champions, leading the team in RBI.

Sandy Alcantara (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

Prospect Sandy Alcantara got in his bullpen work. Alvaro Seijas and pitching coordinator Tim Leveque look on.

Junior Fernandez (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

So did mate Junior Fernandez.

Andrew Knizner (Brian Walton / The Cardinal Nation)

Though it did not draw a lot of attention, catcher Andrew Knizner did a fine job with Johnson City’s title team.

Bryce Denton (Brian Walton / The Cardinal Nation)

Bryce Denton may have changed positions defensively, from third to the outfield, but his focus on hitting remains firm.

Delvin Perez (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

Top 2016 draftee Delvin Perez takes one for the team. (Perez is also pictured in the lead photo.)

Jake Woodford (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

Jake Woodford had a solid season at Peoria, strongest earlier on.

Chandler Hawkins (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

Lefty reliever Chandler Hawkins finished 2015 with Johnson City and 2016 at Double-A Springfield.

Jeremy Martinez (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

Catcher Jeremy Martinez joined the Cards in the fourth round of the 2016 draft from USC and became a New York-Penn League All-Star.

Jeremy Martinez (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

As a professional, Martinez continued his career pattern of drawing more walks than striking out.

Chris Chinea (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

Chris Chinea has a middle of the lineup bat and can play a good first base along with catching.

Ramon Santos (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

Ramon Santos went seven innings in Johnson City's Appalachian League finals opener.
