Saturday’s St. Louis Cardinals prospect highlights from the Arizona Fall League.

In Saturday’s loss to Salt River, Cardinal Corey Littrell yielded an unearned run in two innings while Paul DeJong went 0-for-4.

Results for the game played on Saturday, October 15.

Glendale Desert Dogs 4, Salt River Rafters 9

Through two innings, the Desert Dogs were already down 5-1. St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Corey Littrell took over to open the third and gave up a one-out double and a stolen base. However, the Memphis reliever escaped the jam by inducing a pair of ground outs.

Littrell remained in to pitch the fourth. This time, he yielded another double – to the leadoff man. A two-out error by the second baseman enabled the unearned run to cross the plate before Littrell secured the third out.

17 of Littrell’s 25 pitches went for strikes and five of his six outs were secured via the ground ball.

It was his second two-inning outing in the Arizona Fall League to-date. He has been charged with no earned runs on two hits.

Cardinals prospect Paul DeJong started in the designated hitter position for Glendale, the only Cardinal position player to make an appearance.  DeJong is off to a slow start in the AFL, and it continued Saturday as he went 0-for-4 with one strikeout.  The right handed hitter struck out looking, flied out to right, lined out to center, and grounded out to the pitcher.  In 14 at bats in the desert, DeJong is batting a paltry .071.

Sunday’s game:  No games scheduled.
