Results from the game played Monday, October 17th.
Two unearned ninth-inning tallies proved decisive in the Desert Dogs’ 5-4 home loss to the Javelinas.
Glendale (2-4) entered the frame clinging to a 4-3 lead with a new reliever trying to close the game out. But Houston right-hander Jacob Dorris (BS, 1)(L, 1-1) loaded the bases via a fielding error, single and hit batsman - without retiring a batter.
A game-tying sac fly ensued followed by a missed catch error on third baseman Drew Ward (WSH) that let both runners advance. Dorris notched a K before issuing an intentional free pass to re-jam the sacks full. Unfortunately, he walked the next batter, too, and that was the ballgame.
The only Cardinals hurler to see action was Rowan Wick, whose Arizona Fall League struggles continue. Wick gave up a run for the third time in three appearances, this one a home run in the seventh. He caught one batter looking among his three outs secured.
Meanwhile at the plate, St. Louis was represented by Carson Kelly and Paul DeJong. Kelly, the designated hitter and number three batter, singled once in four at bats and grounded into one double play. Shortstop DeJong mustered just his second hit in 17 at bats so far, going 1-for-3 with an RBI out of the nine hole.
Tuesday’s game: at Peoria (3-1), 6:35 pm MST, Austin Gomber (1-0, 0.00)
