Saturday’s St. Louis Cardinals prospect highlights from the Arizona Fall League.

St. Louis Cardinals catching prospect Carson Kelly hit his second Arizona Fall League home run in Glendale’s Saturday loss to Surprise.

Results for the game played on October 22.

Glendale Desert Dogs 8, Surprise Saguaros 10

Carson Kelly blasted a three-run home run as part of a seven-run Glendale comeback in the sixth, but the bullpen could not hold on as the Desert Dogs went on to a 10-8 home defeat to the Surprise Saguaros on Saturday.  The home run was Kelly’s second long ball of the AFL season.  The cleanup hitter also stole his first base after he drew a walk in his first plate appearance.  The stolen base was Kelly’s first attempt.  The catching prospect was left stranded at third as part of his 1-for-4 day. Kelly is now batting .240 in AFL action.

On defense, Kelly had a busy day. The 22-year-old committed a throwing error, his first miscue this fall.  The error occurred when Kelly attempted to throw out a runner stealing third base, who came home as a result.  The catcher did tag out two Saguaros runners at home attempting to score.

None of the other six Cardinals prospects on the Glendale roster appeared in Saturday's contest. With the loss, the Desert Dogs fell to 3-8, six games out of first place.

Sunday’s game:  No games scheduled.
