Monday’s St. Louis Cardinals prospect highlights from the Arizona Fall League and a look ahead to Tuesday’s action.

Cardinals pitching and hitting led the way in Glendale’s blowout Monday win. Corey Littrell dominated in two innings of relief.

Results from the game played Monday, October 24th.

Glendale 12 at Scottsdale 4

The Desert Dogs (4-8) scored in five of the first six frames, coasting to a 12-4 victory at Scottsdale (3-9).  The game featured the bottom dwellers of their respective divisions.

All nine Glendale starters took part in the 18-hit attack, led by three players with three hits apiece:  third baseman Drew Ward (WSH), first baseman Danny Hayes (CWS) and catcher Garrett Stubbs (HOU).  All three went 3-for-5 with Ward and Stubbs each doubling once.

St. Louis’ prospects got into the act as well.  Carson Kelly singled and doubled in five at bats with a run scored and two RBI.  Kelly was the designated hitter and number three hitter.  Right fielder Harrison Bader went 2-for-4 with a sac fly bringing in one of his two RBI.  He was not as productive on the base paths, however, erased both times in stolen base attempts.

Shortstop Paul DeJong’s only hit in four at bats was his first home run of the AFL campaign.  It came with a runner aboard for two of his three driven in, before the final RBI via a sac fly.

Glendale’s pitching staff for the game consisted of four pitchers, three of them out of the Cardinals’ organization.  Starter Austin Gomber notched his second win without a loss, fanning five over five frames with four hits and a walk given up, resulting in one tally.  Gomber threw 77 pitches, 50 for strikes.

Corey Littrell replaced Gomber in the sixth, matching his five K’s but doing it in just two innings.  Littrell allowed one hit.  Ryan Sherriff finished the game with a scoreless ninth, working around a hit and base-on-balls and striking out one.
