Thursday’s St. Louis Cardinals prospect highlights from the Arizona Fall League and a look ahead to Friday’s action.

Cardinals catcher Carson Kelly reached base all four times, scoring twice, in Glendale’s Thursday loss.

Results from the game played Thursday, October 27th.

Mesa 10 at Glendale 7

Seven runs yielded over the final three frames left Glendale (5-10) on the wrong end of a 10-7 outcome against Mesa (8-7) on Thursday afternoon.

The Desert Dogs took a 4-3 lead into the seventh but two tallies off Nationals’ lefty Nick Lee (BS, 1) put the Solar Sox up for the first time.  Glendale replied with three in the home half of the frame to go back up 7-5, but that lasted only until the next inning when right-hander Ralston Cash (LAD) took the mound.

Cash matched both the four hits and two runs allowed by Lee, which knotted the score at 7-7 after eight.  The difference in the game came off righty Ryan Brinley (L, 1-1) (WSH) who was touched for three runs, two earned, on four hits in 2/3 of an inning.

St. Louis’ Corey Littrell fanned his only batter swinging, leaving Brinley’s last runner at second.  Littrell was the only Cardinals’ hurler to see action.

Carson Kelly and Harrison Bader both started for Glendale.  Kelly was one of three Desert Dogs compiling a two-hit performance, joining shortstop Osvaldo Abreu (WSH) and second baseman Tim Locastro (LAD).  Kelly was on base four times via two singles plus two walks, two runs scored and a sac bunt.  Defensively, he donned the tools of ignorance and was charged with his second passed ball.

Bader hit fifth, two places below Kelly, singling once in five at bats.  He grounded into a force to end the first and grounded out again to open the third.  In Bader’s third at bat, he poked a soft liner to right, scoring Kelly in the fifth.  The right-handed hitter, now batting .343, pushed the action by swiping second, his second steal of the fall campaign, but was stranded there.  Bader finished his day with a fly out to center and 4-3 ground out.

Glendale’s left fielder also threw out a runner at home for his second AFL assist.
