Results from the game played Monday, October 31st.
Three eighth-inning hits broke a scoreless tie and sent Glendale to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Surprise (10-7), their 12th loss in 18 games.
All three hits came off Dodgers’ right-hander Corey Copping (L, 0-1) - a single, double and triple. He fanned one.
Copping replaced St. Louis’ Corey Littrell, who was impressive during his 2 1/3-inning scoreless stint. The southpaw took the mound in the fifth with a runner at first and two gone. He finished the frame with the first of his four strikeouts. Littrell gave up a one-out single in the sixth and a base-on-balls to begin the seventh. He was also charged with a throwing error during an attempted pick off, advancing the baserunner to second in his first full inning of work. 23 of Littrell’s 36 pitches went for strikes and four of his seven outs secured were via the strikeout.
Three of the Cardinals’ four representatives to Saturday’s Arizona Fall Stars Game started for Glendale: Paul DeJong, Carson Kelly and Harrison Bader. (Only reliever Rowan Wick did not get into the game.) DeJong and Bader both singled twice, the former in five at bats and the latter in four. Bader added his third stolen base and DeJong fanned once. Kelly was hitless in three at bats with a base-on-balls.
Tuesday’s game: vs. Scottsdale (6-12), 12:35 pm MST, TBA
