You would not be here reading this if you were not already familiar with St. Louis Cardinals catcher Carson Kelly. The organization’s top backstop prospect has continued to improve while rolling up accolades that include the minor league Gold Glove Award in 2015, appearances in the MLB Futures Game, Texas League All-Star Game and on Saturday, the Arizona Fall League Fall Stars Game.
Then of course, there is the 22-year old’s Major League debut this September, as he spent an entire month with the big-leaguers before his fall assignment to MLB’s “finishing school” in the desert. The right-handed hitter is producing at the plate, ranked second in the AFL with 14 RBI in 14 games.
In the following, the first of our annual interview series with Cardinals competing in the AFL, Kelly discusses his growth in both catching and hitting, the Arizona Fall League experience and what is ahead.
