Monday’s St. Louis Cardinals prospect highlights from the Arizona Fall League and a look ahead to Tuesday’s action.

On Monday, Carson Kelly and Harrison Bader helped power Glendale to its fifth consecutive win.

Results from the game played Monday, November 7th.

Glendale 15 vs. Peoria 3

The Desert Dogs (11-12) powered up on Monday, delivering a 15-3 thumping to Peoria (11-9) for their fifth consecutive win.  Glendale remains in third place in the three-team West Division, 1 ½ games behind Peoria and Surprise.

Seven of Glendale’s 16 hits went for extra bases, including four home runs accounting for eight tallies.  Carson Kelly ignited the power display with a two-run shot, putting his team ahead 2-0 after two.  The long ball was one of three hits in five at bats for the designated hitter.  Batting third, Kelly touched home twice and drove in three.

The home team launched two more home runs in the third, a three-run blast by center fielder Cody Bellinger (LAD) and a two-run shot by right fielder Harrison Bader.  Acting as the Desert Dogs’ clean-up hitter, Bader’s second home run of the season was his only hit in five at bats.  He fanned twice.

That was more than sufficient offense for Glendale starter Nolan Sanburn (W, 2-0) (CWS), who limited the Javelinas to five hits over five.  The righty yielded two runs and did not issue a free pass.  Padres’ southpaw Kyle McGrath was charged with his first loss in three decisions, giving up six runs on six hits – including two home runs – and a walk in two plus.

The only St. Louis hurler to see action was Ryan Sherriff, who was his own worst enemy in the seventh.  The lefty plunked his first batter then issued back-to-back free passes that loaded the bases with one gone.  A soft grounder to third brought a runner across but a 5-3 out was recorded.  Sherriff reloaded the bases via yet another walk before getting Peoria’s clean-up hitter on a swinging K.

Tuesday’s game: at Scottsdale, 2:35 MDT, Chris Anderson (LAD) (1-2, 9.00)
