Results from the Arizona Fall League game played Tuesday, November 8th.

Glendale 3 at Scottsdale 13

One day after being the hammer to the tune of 15-3, Glendale (11-13) was the nail on Tuesday, absorbing a 13-3 loss to Scottsdale (10-14). The decisive defeat ended the Desert Dogs’ five-game winning streak.

The game was really ugly right from the start as starter Chris Anderson (L, 1-3) (LAD) was unable to record a single out.  The righty surrendered eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and a walk.  The Nationals’ Jake Johansen inherited three runners and all three crossed home plate plus two more of his own to put the visitors in a 10-0 hole after one.

St. Louis’ Corey Littrell tossed the third through fifth, yielding a run on three hits while fanning four – three looking and one swinging.  The lefty worked around a one-out double in the third, retiring the next six in a row.  But Littrell was touched for a tally on a one-out single followed by an RBI triple with two gone in the fifth.  He threw 46 pitches in all, 32 for strikes.

The Cardinals were represented on the field by catcher Carson Kelly and shortstop Paul DeJong.  Kelly reached base in three of four plate appearances. He singled once in two at bats, raising his AFL mark to .298, and worked two walks out of the three hole before being replaced behind the plate to begin the home half of the eighth.  DeJong, the number five batter, went hitless in four at bats with three strikeouts.

Wednesday’s game:  at Salt River (12-10), 2:35 pm MST, Austin Voth (1-2, 7.78) (WSH)
