Recently, I reached out to the 2016 Appalachian League Championship winning manager Chris Swauger of the Johnson City Cardinals to discuss a number of his players at-length. Swauger’s squad compiled a 39-29 record on route to a West Division title, culminating into their fourth league crown in the last seven years.
Despite a number of follow-up questions about the majority of the prospects mentioned, Swauger graciously elaborated on each with an almost complete overview on the progress of the prospect.
Among the players touched on, include left-handed ace Ian Oxnevad, catchers Andrew Knizner and Joshua Lopez, shortstop Allen Cordoba, second baseman J.R. Davis, as well as then third baseman and now-outfielder Bryce Denton. We conclude with outfielders Luis Bandes and the unheralded Jonathan Rivera.
Thank you for listening...
