The migration of St. Louis Cardinals prospect Paul DeJong from third base to shortstop began late last season and intensified into the fall. Some was based on potential identified by the player development organization and some was a fortunate by-product of his Arizona Fall League team having a need at the position.
Since then, the 23-year-old former Illinois State star impressed in his first-ever Major League spring training camp and is well positioned to make his St. Louis debut later this season. First, he has to master the Triple-A level, which will begin immediately.
In the following interview, the Florida native spoke from Cardinals spring training camp in Jupiter, Florida about his defensive progression, his power and strikeouts and touched on the portion of the journey that remains ahead.
