Arturo Reyes (Brian Walton/The Cardinal Nation)

Highlights of Saturday’s games across the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system and a look ahead to Sunday’s action.

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-0 on Saturday. Scheduled games in Springfield and Peoria were postponed due to rain. Our Player of the Day is Memphis pitcher Arturo Reyes, who pitched five strong innings of one run ball in the Redbirds’ rain shortened victory against Round Rock.

Results for games played Saturday, April 29.

Memphis 3, Round Rock 1 (5 innings)

This game was completed in less than regulation due to rain.  Both teams scored in the third inning. As Round Rock put one run on the board and the Redbirds followed with three.  Breyvic Valera drew a leadoff walk.  Tommy Pham reached on a throwing error by the Round Rock first baseman, and Valera scored on a throwing error by the Round Rock center fielder.  After Todd Cunningham drew a walk, and with Luke Voit batting, Pham scored on a balk.  A few batters later, Cunningham scored on a Patrick Wisdom single.  Thus, Memphis put three runs on the board despite only one hit in the inning.

Starter Arturo Reyes pitched all five innings, allowing one run on two hits while fanning seven and walking one. The lone score came on a solo home run.  Due to rain, the game was called after the fifth inning.
