Ground Hog Day

For Cardinal fans it must seem like they are extras in a remake of the 1993 movie, Ground Hog Day. The movie starring Bill Murray, was about a cynical weatherman who is forced to continuously re-live the worst day of his life until he learns to become a better person.

Cardinal fans, already considered by many as the best fans in all of baseball, were forced to re-live the worst day of their life again as they watched their beloved Cardinals lose another game to Boston on Wednesday afternoon at City of Palms Park.

Adam Hyzdu belted a three-run homer and Ramon Vazquez added a two-run shot, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 9-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in spring training action.

Bill Mueller, Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz each homered in a rematch of last October's World Series won by Boston in four games. Tim Wakefield posted the win on Wednesday with four solid innings of one-run ball.

Yadier Molina drove in a pair of runs for the Cardinals, who were out hit by a 13-11 margin. John Gall and So Taguchi collected two hits apiece.

St. Louis starter Jason Marquis, the same pitcher who took the loss for the Cardinals in the World Series clincher, was saddled with the loss, and was hit hard, surrendering six runs on 10 hits in just four innings of work.

Carmen Cali, who had been impressive in his long shot bid to make the team as a member of the bullpen, saw his stock drop as he allowed three runs and two hits in an inning of relief.

Boston jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the third inning and cruised to the win.
