Third round of cuts made

Spring training camp down to 39 players

Six St. Louis Cardinals players moved their gear from the major league clubhouse down the hall to the minor league one on Thursday. They are outfielders Reid Gorecki, Skip Schumaker, Raul Gonzalez and Brandon Berger plus right-handed pitchers Jimmy Journell and Evan Rust. Berger, Gonzalez and Schumaker were reassigned to minor league camp. Gorecki, Journell and Rust, on the 40-man roster, were optioned to the minors.

This makes 20 cuts total in three installments from the initial 59 brought to camp this spring. Of the 21 non-roster invitees, only Abraham Nunez, Kevin Jarvis, Bill Pulsipher, Bob File and Anthony Reyes remain. Coming into camp, the 40-man roster stood at 38. Four of them, the three above plus Rhett Parrott, have been optioned out.

So, of the 39 players remaining in camp, there are 34 men from the 40-man plus the five NRI's.

Starting pitchers (7): Mulder, Morris, Carpenter, Marquis, Suppan, Wainwright, An. Reyes
