Cards lose one and tie one on Friday

Magglio Ordonez and Chris Duncan each hit three-run home runs as Friday's split squad game against the Tigers at Jupiter was called at four runs each after nine.

Ordonez's shot was off Chris Carpenter in the third and Duncan connected against reliever Franklyn German in the ninth. Albert Pujols also homered in the first inning with the bases empty.

Carpenter went five innings, striking out eight, while allowing six hits and walking none. He also made a wild pitch and hit a batter. Jason Isringhausen pitched the ninth, giving up one hit and fanning one.

Cardinals (ss) 4 @ Dodgers 6

The bullpen had a rough time as Kevin Jarvis allowed a home run to Chin-Feng Chen in the seventh and took the loss as the Cards' other split squad team gave up a 3-1 lead and fell to the Dodgers 6-4 on Friday afternoon at Vero Beach. Randy Flores and Jarvis, fighting for a reliever spot on the team, each allowed two runs in the seventh.

Jeff Suppan started and gave up just five hits and a walk and one run in 5-2/3 innings pitched. He struck out five. Julian Tavarez allowed a solo home run in the eighth inning as one of his three hits surrendered.

Abraham Nunez seemed to lock down his roster spot by going 4-for-5 with two RBI from the leadoff spot. Hector Luna and Yadier Molina contributed RBIs.
