Matt Morris fans nine in the losing cause

April 7, 2005 - JUPITER, FL – Jupiter Hammerheads' third baseman Lee Mitchell went 2-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBI in Thursday night's 4-3 victory over Palm Beach. Starting Hammerheads' pitcher James Russ opened the season with a dominant performance. After allowing only a solo home run to Cody Haerther in the first and a single in the 2nd to Ty Parker, Russ retired the next 15 batters before tiring in the 7th.

Reliever Brian Strelitz (1-0) came on with one out in the 7th, after three of the first four batters had reached against Russ, and promptly served up the game-tying double to Cardinals' first baseman Brian Santor.

Mitchell's home run in the 8th off Cardinals' reliever Wayne Lundgren (0-1) sealed the victory for Jupiter.

St. Louis Cardinals' pitcher Matt Morris, making his first of two rehab starts, allowed five hits and two earned runs over four innings, while fanning nine.

Jose Garcia pitched well in relief for Palm Beach, striking out four in three innings pitched, giving up only one run.

Kevin Cave pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save of the season for Jupiter.
