Memphis, Tenn. - RHP Kevin Jarvis and four relievers combined to toss a six-hitter as Memphis shut out Oklahoma for the second time in three games, 3-0 Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
Jarvis went the first four and was relieved by RHP Brad Thompson, who allowed one hit in two innings and struck out three to earn the victory. LHP Carmen Cali and RHP Jimmy Journell each added a scoreless inning, and RHP Toby Borland retired the side in the ninth for his second save. The Redbirds scored the only run they would need in the first inning, when 2B Bo Hart (2x4,R,RBI) hit a one-out single and scored on LF Brandon Berger's RBI double. Memphis added two more runs in the fifth when SS John Nelson led off the inning with a home run to left-center - his first Triple-A homer - and Hart's two-out RBI single later in the frame scored CF Skip Schumaker.
Memphis will go for the series sweep as the two teams wrap up the first series of the season Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. RHP Anthony Reyes, the No. 1 prospect in the Cardinals organization, will pitch for the Redbirds against Oklahoma RHP Juan Dominguez.
