Swing Snake Bitten In the First

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and the Swing never recovered as they were defeated, 9-2, on Tuesday night at Fox Cities Stadium. The Swing bullpen performed well, however, retiring the final 19 Rattlers of the game to limit Wisconsin's onslaught.

The Timber Rattlers jumped out to the early lead, chasing Swing hurler Justin Brown from the game before he could retire a batter. Wisconsin drew two walks, ripped two singles, drew one more walk, and Brendan Green's two-run double chased Brown from the game. Green swiped third on a successful double steal, then scored on Brent Johnson's sacrifice fly to give Wisconsin a 6-0 lead. All told, the Rattlers scored six runs on three hits in the inning to take a commanding lead.

Wisconsin piled on in the bottom of the second inning, pushing across three runs against Miguel Aguero. The Rattlers ripped two more doubles in the inning, and Mike Wilson's RBI triple capped the scoring.

Quad Cities scored its first run of the night in the top of the fourth inning. With one-out in the frame, Andy Brown ripped a triple into the right-center gap, one-hopping the 405-foot sign and taking third with a feet-first slide. Wes Swackhamer followed with a sacrifice fly, slicing Wisconsin's lead to 9-1.

The Swing added another run in the top of the eighth inning. Jose Delgado singled, and Simon Williams and Matt Lemanczyk followed with walks to load the bases. A double play ball off the bat of Juan Lucena plated Delgado.

After the struggles of Brown and Aguero, the Swing bullpen came on strong. Jackson Paz worked two perfect innings, striking out three, and Justin Knoff struck out two in a perfect fifth inning. Making his Swing debut, Jaymes Torres followed by retiring six in a row over the sixth and seventh innings, recording one strikeout. Michael Gross closed the game with a 1-2-3 eighth frame.
