(04/25) Royals Silence Memphis Bats, 2-1

Memphis, Tenn. – Omaha starter Danny Tamayo outdueled Memphis starter Adam Wainwright as the Royals earned a 2-1 win over the Redbirds Monday night at AutoZone Park.

Wainwright (2-1) allowed just one earned run on five hits, striking out seven without a walk, in seven innings of work. Tamayo shut out the Memphis offense for 6.2 innings before giving way to the bullpen. The difference in the game was an unearned run in the sixth inning. Omaha DH Mark Teahen reached second base on an error by LF Pete Zoccolillo and scored on a Paul Phillips single. Teahen also scored the other Omaha run after he hit a two-out double and scored in the first inning. Memphis finally dented the scoreboard with a solo home run by 3B Scott Seabol – who had two hits on the night – leading off the ninth, but the Redbirds went down in order after that. RF Raul Gonzalez notched his third consecutive multi-hit game with two singles.

The two teams will play the finale of the four-game set on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m., with RHP Kevin Jarvis (1-0) going for Memphis against Omaha RHP Dennis Tankersley (0-2).
