Memphis, Tenn. – RHP Kevin Jarvis tossed seven strong innings, and 3B Scott Seabol drove in the decisive run in the fifth inning as Memphis earned a split of its four-game series vs. Omaha with a 4-1 victory Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.
After three scoreless innings, the Redbirds got on the scoreboard first, on a bases-loaded walk to SS John Nelson. Omaha answered with a run of its own in the fifth, but Memphis regained the lead for good when RF Raul Gonzalez led off the bottom of the fifth with a double and came around to score on Seabol's RBI double one out later. Jarvis and LHPs Carmen Cali and Tyler Johnson did the rest, and the Redbirds added two insurance runs in the eighth for the final margin. Jarvis (2-0) allowed one run on six hits in seven innings, striking out seven, and Cali and Johnson – who recorded his first Triple-A and fifth career save – each pitched scoreless innings. Memphis did not walk a batter for the second straight game. 1B Chris Duncan had three hits for the Redbirds, and Gonzalez and Seabol added two apiece.
After an off day Wednesday, the homestand continues with a four-game series against Iowa starting at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
