Cardinals Where Have You Gone? Reader Votes In

Birdhouse readers selected the ex-players to be featured each of the next seven weeks.

As I announced recently, best-selling author Rob Rains and his publisher, Sports Publishing, LLC ( selected The Birdhouse to exclusively publish seven installments of Rains' new book, Cardinals Where Have You Gone?, in their entirety.

One former Redbirds player will be featured every Friday starting this week, on May 6, with the series running through June 17. With both Mother's Day and Father's Day on the way, what better choice of a gift could one choose than a book about past Cardinals' heroes? You'll get a great preview right here.

The first of the seven segments will be available free to all Birdhouse readers. However, to also enjoy the six subsequent ones, you'll need to be a Insider – another benefit for subscribing to The Birdhouse.

The opportunity to decide which players will be featured in all seven segments was open to you, the readers, over the past two weeks. Now with the conclusion of voting, I am pleased to announce the winners.

By a comfortable margin, Ted "Simba" Simmons led the pack. While not a surprise winner, the level of reader interest in the former Cardinals catcher is very high. Here is the complete list of former players and their scheduled feature dates here at The Birdhouse:

May 6 Ted Simmons
May 13 Vince Coleman
May 20 John Tudor
May 27 Ernie Broglio
June 3 Tom Pagnozzi
June 10 Garry Templeton
June 17 Todd Worrell

They other former Cardinals players featured in Cardinals Where Are You Now? : Jack Clark, Rex Hudler, Dal Maxvill, John Morris, Ken Reitz, Danny Cox, Greg Mathews, Tom Nieto, Ray Washburn, Bob Tewksbury, Mike Jorgenson, Andy Van Slyke, Rick Horton, Pat Perry, Ray Cunningham, Ken Dayley, Tom Lawless, Kent Bottenfield, Rick Wise, Steve Braun, Bud Smith, Jeff Lahti, Ron Taylor, Scott Terry, John Stuper, Phil Gagliano, Bob Sykes, Tito Landrum, Charlie James, Dave LaPoint, and Dick Groat.

Then, don't forget to come back each subsequent Friday for the next six stories.
