Pulsipher Outrighted

The Cardinals keep rookie RHP Brad Thompson in St. Louis and outrighted veteran LHP Bill Pulsipher to Memphis to make room for catcher Mike Mahoney.

The Cardinals today outrighted relief pitcher Bill Pulsipher and recalled catcher Mike Mahoney from Triple-A Memphis.

The move was necessitated when catcher Yadier Molina sprained his left ankle by stepping awkwardly on first base after a ground out in yesterday's win.

Mahoney was batting .212 (14-66) with two home runs and seven RBI in 21 games at Memphis, including a 1-3, three- RBI effort that included a two-run HR yesterday at Iowa.

Mahoney will wear jersey number 46.

The term outrighted means a transaction between two teams in which a player is obtained for cash alone rather than in a trade or a trade plus cash.

Pulsipher has no record and a 6.75 ERA in five games and was removed from the Cardinals 40 man roster as well, meaning his recall to St. Louis immediately is highly unlikely.
