High-A – Sarasota Reds 9, Palm Beach Cardinals 5
"Cardinals slammed by Reds, 9-5"
(The Birdhouse News) A walk-off grand slam by Hector Tiburcio off reliever Roberto Batista propelled the Sarasota Reds to a 9-5 victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals Monday evening. Trailing 5-4 going into the top of the ninth, the Cardinals tied the game on Ty Parker's fourth home run of the season. With Jeffrey Randazzo (L, 0-1, 10.38 ERA) on the mound, the Reds led off the ninth inning with back-to-back singles. An intentional walk followed that loaded the bases and brought Batista into the game to face Tiburcio. Carlos Guevara (BS, 1) (W, 3-3, 3.32) got the win for the Reds.
Palm Beach scored two runs to open the game but starter Jose Garcia could not hold the lead. He went four and one-thirds inning, allowing two runs, both earned, on seven hits and three walks. Four of the Cardinals' five runs scored came via the long ball. Designated hitter Matt Dryer had two-run blast in the first. Cody Haerther and Ty Parker added solo shots, Parker's coming as a pinch hitter. The other run scored when second baseman Cal Hayes grounded out, plating right fielder Terry Evans.
