High-A – Palm Beach Cardinals 3, Sarasota Reds 1
"Key hits unlock Cardinals victory, 3-1"
(The Birdhouse News) Two key eighth-inning hits was the difference Tuesday night as the Palm Beach Cardinals triumphed over the Sarasota Reds 3-1. The Cardinals' first run of the night came in the fifth when Jonny Kaplan singled to left with two outs. Catcher Jason Motte made his only hit of the night count by doubling Kaplan home. With the game tied at one and a runner on second, Mike McCoy looped a one-out double left that scored Kaplan. A Rayner Laya single plated McCoy for the third Cardinals run of the night. Lefty Buddy Blair began the long road back to Double-A with a very strong seven-inning performance. Blair struck out seven and walked only one while allowing only three hits. Two of the three hits allowed came in the sixth inning on a two-out single that was followed by a run-scoring triple. That one run was all Blair allowed. Andy Cavazos pitched around a two-out single and a failed pick-off attempt for a scoreless eighth. Mark Worrell shut down the Reds in the ninth for his eighth save of the season. The victory evened the four-game series at one-all.
