Birdhouse Players of the Month Awards - May, 2005

Recognizing the top players in the Cardinals minor league system during May.

We are back with the Birdhouse Players of the Month Awards. Each month we give awards for those players leading the entire St. Louis Cardinals minor league system in various offensive categories for that month. (A batter must have 3.1 plate appearances per game to qualify. Also, for those players changing teams during the month, the team with which they ended the month is listed.) We let you know which player led each team in that category plus a top five. Just to be clear, we are talking about a player's performance during that month only. To those being recognized and honored, we say "Good job!"

Now, on to the awards –

Runs Created
"Runs Created" or RC is a statistic created by Bill James to measure a player's total offensive production. Bill James describes it by saying scoring runs consists of two actions: First - getting on base or creating base runners and Second - the advancing of those runners around the bases. The formula we used to ascertain each player's RC that incorporates the stolen base element of offense.
