High-A – St. Lucie Mets 7, Palm Beach Cardinals 2
(The Birdhouse News) The St. Lucie Mets downed the Palm Beach Cardinals on Sunday 7-2.
Palm Beach nursed a 1-0 lead through five innings before the Mets plated three runs in the sixth to lead 3-1. They increased their lead with three more in the seventh inning and capped things off with a single run in the eighth inning.
Roberto Batista started the game and held the Mets scoreless through his four-inning stint. Scott Schweitzer (L, 0-2, 3.80 ERA) took the loss by allowing three runs in one and one-third innings pitched on two hits and a walk. Two of the runs counted against Schweitzer actually scored on a double given up by Rich Scalamandre when he relieved Schweitzer with one out and two on in the sixth. Scalamandre was scored upon for the first time in over a month when he gave up three runs in the seventh. Andy Cavazos allowed the Mets' eighth-inning run. Wayne Lundgren pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Cardinals got on the board with Reid Gorecki's first home run in a Palm Beach uniform this season, a solo shot in the fourth inning. Gorecki went 2-for-3 with a walk and drove in both Cardinals runs. The final Cardinals run scored in the sixth when Gorecki's ground out scored Rayner Laya from third. Left fielder Tony McQuade went 2-for-4 for the Cardinals.
