Swing place Verbryke on disabled list

The St. Louis Cardinals Thursday placed Swing outfielder Eric Verbryke on the disabled list with inflammation of the right elbow. To fill his roster spot, righthanded pitcher Tyler Adamczyk has been added to the Quad Cities roster from Palm Beach.

Verbryke heads to the disabled list after performing well with the Swing of the Quad Cities. In eight games, the outfielder had batted .394 with seven RBI. Verbryke collected a Swing season-high five base hits in his second game with Quad Cities, collecting a pair of doubles and two RBI on June 6 at West Michigan. Originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the ninth round of the 2002 draft, Verbryke signed with the Cardinals in June after starting the season with Double-A Trenton.

Adamczyk joins the Swing roster after starting the season with Class A-Advanced Palm Beach of the Florida State League. In 14 starts with Palm Beach, he went 3-7 with a 6.68 ERA, striking out 33 in 67.1 innings. Adamczyk spent the 2003 season with Peoria, going 7-12 with a 4.49 ERA in 26 starts. The 6-6, 190-pounder out of Westlake, California, was originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2001 draft. A starting pitcher for the entirety of his professional career, Adamczyk will initially join the Swing bullpen.
