Greene, McCormick, Ten Others Sign

36 of the 51 2005 Cardinals picks have agreed to terms

The Cardinals announced the signings of shortstop Tyler Greene and right-handed pitcher Mark McCormick and ten other draft picks on Friday. They have now signed 36 of the 51 players that they selected on draft day, including all of their top 15 picks.

"The swift manner in which we were able to get our top draft picks under contract is very encouraging and exciting," said Cardinals Assistant General Manager John Mozeliak. "Their development can begin without significant delay and that is a tremendous positive for our entire organization."

In addition to the two Scott Boras clients, the Cardinals also officially announced the signings of ten more players, all of which have already begun their professional careers: Daryl Jones, Mitchell Boggs, Nick Stavinoha, Jason Cairns, Steve Gonzalez, Michael Repole, Matt Lane, Shawn Garceau, David Phillips and Mark Rodgers.

Greene, the Cardinals second of two first round picks, was named First-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference this past season and was also named the 2005 ACC Tournament MVP. In addition, Tyler was a first-team All-America selection in 2005 by USA Today Sports Weekly and Collegiate Baseball.

League wide, Greene finished second in the ACC in runs batted in (72) and stolen bases (30), third in runs (75) and hits (97), fifth in total bases (154), eighth in average (.373), slugging percentage (.592) and home runs (12) and tenth in on-base percentage (.464).

McCormick, selected in the supplemental first round (43rd overall), recently completed his collegiate career at Baylor University with a trip to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The 21-year-old has been clocked at as high as 101 mph and usually works in the mid-to-high 90s. He posted an 8-4 record this season with a 2.96 ERA, 115 strikeouts in 122-2/3 innings pitched, and held opponents to a .184 batting average.
