Astros take Cardinals 4-1

JOHNSON CITY, TN (July 24,2005) - The Cardinals started the game with intensity, scoring their only run early in the 1st inning. Right Fielder, Daryl Jones started the Cardinal offense by doubling to left field and Colby Rasmus followed with another double to score Jones taking the lead 1-0.

The Astros were quiet until the 4th inning. Former University of Tennessee player, Eli Iorg singled off the right field wall, stole 2nd, advanced to 3rd, and later scored on a passed ball, tying the score at 1-1. Then Antonio Garcia smashed a two run homer for the Astros, to put the score at 3-1.

The Cardinals played solid defense the entire game, highlighted by double play by Solano in the 6th. Followed by pitcher John Powell striking out the side in the 7th. But the Astros closed the deal, when left fielder Joshua Flores hit a solo homerun in the 8th for the final score of 4-1. The Cardinals had 7 hits on the night but were only able to knock in one run. Daryl Jones and Colby Rasmus led the Cardinals offensively with two hits a piece.
