Cunningham was born on January 17, 1905 in Mesquite, TX and he broke into professional baseball with Greenville in 1926. He first played for the Houston Buffs in the Texas League in 1929.
Lee was a wonderful old guy and our living connection to a great era in baseball history. I'm glad that we honored him in 2004 at the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame with a special plaque celebrating his life in baseball.
Those of us who were privileged to meet him will always be grateful that we took the opportunity to spend some time with him in a life that went far into extra innings.
We are proud to have played a role in helping to reconnect "Lee" Cunningham with the baseball community last year. Here are links to stories about the search process and the first meeting.
Peace be with you, Lee.
