"Live the Life of Luxury" Contest Winners Unveiled

Chuck Ward has been a Cardinals fan for the vast majority of his life – half a century, in fact. Like so many of our readers, Ward, who lives in San Diego, California, is a displaced Midwesterner whose busy life requires him to follow the Redbirds from afar.

Chuck keeps up with his favorite team via his premium subscription to www.thestlcardinals.com and was selected in a random drawing as the winner of our "Live the Life of Luxury" Contest. With that, Ward and his guest will be joining our staff to see the Wednesday evening, September 28 Cardinals game against the Astros from our luxury suite at Busch Stadium. In addition, he receives a room for that night at the Renaissance Grand Hotel in St. Louis, also courtesy of www.thestlcardinals.com.

I asked Ward when he began to follow the team. "I became a Cardinals fan about 1955 or 1956. It was an easy decision. I lived in Manhattan, Kansas, so it was either the Kansas City Athletics, who lost 100 games each year or the Cardinals. So, it was easy," he explained.

Ward's best Cardinals memory is one that stands out for many of us: "Bob Gibson in the World Series – in 1967."

What really makes Chuck Ward unique is that his last visit to Busch Stadium will also be his first. But, don't think for one second that the miles of separation means he doesn't keep up with his team. That is far from the case.

Ward explains. "I've never seen the Cardinals play in Busch Stadium. I live out here in San Diego and I've seen them play here a lot. I've seen them play in Shea Stadium and I've seen them play the Dodgers, but I've never seen them play in St. Louis for a game. I try to watch all the Cardinals games I can on television."

I explained that in addition to saying goodbye to Busch II, Ward will be able to greet Busch Stadium III while he is in town. "We'll, that is what I am looking forward to," he said excitedly.

Of course, I had to ask why he became a premium subscriber to www.thestlcardinals.com. Ward's answer was straightforward. "This summer, I saw the site and tried it out for a month and liked it and decided to sign up for a year. I just like the overall information."

The second winner in the "Live the Life of Luxury" Contest, representing our message board, is Cody Rinehart, a.k.a. OBPplusSLG. With a handle like that, Rinehart must know his Cardinals baseball. Cody and his guest will also join the gathering in our Busch Stadium luxury box on the 28th.

Thank you to all of our subscribers and those readers who entered the contest, with special congratulations to Chuck Ward and Cody Rinehart – our contest winners.
