Exclusive Interview – Travis Hanson

Top Cardinal prospect, third baseman Travis Hanson, talks with Brian Walton from the Arizona Fall League.

St. Louis Cardinals minor league third baseman Travis Hanson, 24, is coming off a standout offensive season for the Double-A Springfield Cardinals, where he hit .293 with 20 home runs and 97 RBI, both career highs. He batted .284, seven points higher than in 2003 at Class-A Peoria prior to Hanson's injury-abbreviated 2004 campaign. This past season, Hanson also put up career highs in walks (54), on-base percentage (.347) and slugging (.458) percentage.

The Cards' ninth-round pick in 2002 was an All-Star in three of his first four years in the system, including being selected as a member of the Texas League squad this past season. Clearly, Hanson's star is on the rise.

After the completion of the Arizona Fall League, Hanson will be joining pitcher Chris Lambert on Team USA to be their starting third baseman in the Olympic qualifier to be held in Arizona later this month.
