Tuesday Rumors

More rumblings about the Cardinals signing current players and interest in potential new ones.

Out of the Dotel sweepstakes?

Informal word I have received is that the Cardinals are apparently out of the pursuit of Octavio Dotel. Why? Likely money.

Felix Rodriguez – Still Plan B?

Attention is reportedly being shifted from Dotel to a push to sign Felix Rodriquez but nothing is certain at this point.

Arbitration eligible – Jason Marquis

The Cards are apparently negotiating with Marquis' agent but I am unsure of any progress. It remains very interesting to see if the Cardinals will offer Marquis multiple years to enhance his trade value and whether Marquis would give up that leverage. I'll bet that internal discussion has been lively.

Arbitration eligible – Larry Bigbie

It shouldn't be too difficult to get Bigbie signed. Some reports say that the Cards are already zeroing in on a one-year, $900,000 deal. That sounds about right.

A new possibility - Cleveland?

I am told that Walt Jocketty continues to speak with a number of teams but a new team has come up in Cleveland. I don't know what players were floated, but given that Cleveland has just added relievers Danny Graves and Steve Karsay, it could be about Rafael Betancourt or David Riske. At least those are the names I would ask about.

Washington cooling?

Discussions continue about Jose Vidro and Ryan Church but there are apparently other teams also interested in one or both of these guys. It doesn't feel hot.
