Just prior to a long chat with Tony La Russa, former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda exchanges pleasantries with First Base Coach Dave McKay.
McKay, Bullpen catcher Jeff Murphy and Bench Coach Joe Pettini wait to take the field for batting practice.
Now, this is a dugout. Literally, a six foot by about 30 foot concrete trench with no cover other than a very short screen in front. Tony La Russa said before the game that he was very happy it was an overcast day. You can see what he means.
Scott Rolen getting some hitting work against a screen with Pettini. He hit his first offering off the metal frame and it ricocheted back off his foot. Rolen grabbed his foot in mock pain as the fans watching gasped. Fortunately, he was joking.
Rolen moved to the cage next, where it was apparently safer.
This Dodgers franchise has had its share of past success.
