Cardinals Extended Spring Training Statistics

Hitting and pitching results from 46 Cardinals prospects participating in Extended Spring Training.

When the four full-season Cardinals minor league teams broke camp at the beginning of April, a number of prospects stayed behind, working out and scrimmaging at the Roger Dean Stadium complex in Jupiter, Florida, participating in what is called "Extended Spring Training".

Other players, a group from the Dominican Republic highlighted in this March 16 story "Dominican Grads to Extended Spring Training", have undertaken their initial trip to America to also participate.

From this pool of young athletes, 23 pitchers and 23 hitters, those deemed most ready may be called upon to backfill for injured players at Quad Cities. Many will populate the roster of the short-season squad in Johnson City while others will augment the 2006 draftees who will join the new State College Spikes, formerly the New Jersey Cardinals, when they begin play in June. Some will return to the Dominican for 2006 Summer League play. History says others will be injured or released.

Because baseball at any level is statistics-driven, stats are maintained for all players at Extended Spring Training. Here are those numbers for Cardinals hitters and pitchers through April 18.
