Mulligan Signs with St. Louis

Casey Mulligan, one of the few high school prospects drafted by the Cardinals in last week's Major League draft, has signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as a 22nd round draft choice and is reporting to Johnson City.

Mulligan, a top hitter, catcher, infielder and relief pitcher, was a four-year starter at Valencia High School, in California, who had signed with Cal State Fullerton.

"I'm excited. I'm ready to go," Mulligan said. "I didn't get the money I asked for, but it's enough, so I took it. I'll be there."

Mulligan, a four-year starter, has turned down scholarship at California State University, Fullerton.

This past season, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior batted .407 with one home run and 21 RBIs, and he set a school season record with eight saves.
