Initial rosters for the 2006 editions of the Cardinals minor league affiliates in the New York-Penn League (State College Spikes) and Appalachian League (Johnson City Cardinals).
Fourteen players from this month's MLB First-Year Player Draft have been assigned to the State College Spikes. This includes the top eight signed Cardinals' picks and four of their first six drafted. These youngsters make up just under half of the 30-man Opening Day roster.
The Spikes, formerly the New Jersey Cardinals, make their New York-Penn League debut on Tuesday against Williamsport.
Spikes 2006 drafted pitchers (round): Gary Daley (3), Brad Furnish (2), Kyle Mura (42), Tyler Norrick (6), Adam Ottavino (1), Brian Schroeder (33), P.J. Walters (11).
Other pitchers: Ryan Hodinka, Matt Lane, Kenny Maiques, Lance Marcum, Jason Motte, Rhett Parrott, Michael Repole, Matt Saucedo, Donnie Smith.
2006 drafted infielders: Allen Craig (8), Mark Hamilton (2a), Jared Schweitzer (30).
Other infielders: Adam Morris, Jose Salazar, Donovan Solano.
2006 drafted catchers: David Carpenter (12), Christian Reyes (27), Scott Thomas (38)
Other catchers: Steve Gonzalez
2006 drafted outfielders: Nathan Southard (17).

The Johnson City Cardinals of the Rookie Appalachian League have an exhibition at home on Tuesday and their regular season gets under way Wednesday at Bristol.
