Josh Kinney Named to PCL All-Star Team

He'll be the only Redbird on this year's Pacific Coast League All-Star Team. Kinney the former River City Rascal is one of the few bright spots on this year's Memphis Redbirds team, currently in 3rd place with a 33-46 record, nine games back of Nashville, in the American North Division.

The Memphis Redbirds landed just one player on the Pacific Coast League All-Star team with Josh Kinney being named to the roster.

The 6'1", 195 pound, 27 year old, Kinney has appeared in a team-leading 33 games for the Redbirds this season. He is 1-2 with a 1.75 ERA and one save. The right-hander has struck out 47 batters in 46.1 innings. Kinney originally signed with the River City Rascals of the independent Frontier League out of Quincy University in 2001. The Cardinals purchased his contract from River City after he made only three appearances for the Rascals.

Kinney is in his second season with AAA Memphis. He was promoted to AAA last May from AA Springfield, after posting a record of 4-1, with an ERA of 1.32 for the Springfield Cardinals.

Kinney led the Springfield ballclub with 10 saves and 20 appearances out of the bullpen, allowing a remarkable four earned runs in 27.1 innings worth of work, before his promotion to Memphis.

The PCL will play the International League All-Stars on Wednesday, July 12 in Toledo, OH at the Toledo MudHens' Fifth Third Field. The 19th annual Triple-A All-Star game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 with game time scheduled for 6 p.m. CST.
