Minor League Pennant Fever

The Cardinals three A-team affiliates are still playing for a pennant.

Three of the Cardinals minor league affiliate clubs are gripped in tight pennant races as their seasons draw to a close.

The Palm Beach Cardinals (A) of the Florida State League was rained out last night at St. Lucie and and remains percentage points (.557-.556) ahead of the Daytona Cubs with five games remaining.

Swing of Quad Cities (A) of the Midwest League won their 6th straight last night with a 7-2 win over Kane County to stretch their lead over the Cougars to 3-1/2 games. the Swing have five games remaining, including one more with Kane County.

The State College Spikes (A) of the NY-Penn League are just one game back of Auburn in the Pinckney Division with 8 games remaining.

The Cardinals other minor league affiliates, the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds and Double-A Springfield Cardinals didn't fare as well this season.

Memphis is currently 56-83 and in 3rd place, 19 games back in the Pacific Coast League, American North Division.

Springfield is 14.5 games back, in last place in the Texas League North Division with a 25-41 record in the second half of the season after posting a 39-21 record in the first half.
