Mets End PB Cards Season Wednesday

The Palm Beach Cardinals' season and hopes of a Florida State League Championship repeat came to an end Wednesday night in a hard fought 6-5 loss at the hands of the St. Lucie Mets.

Cory Meacham, in eight starts for the Cardinals this season, posted a respectable 5-3 record with a 3.45 ERA. He was given the ball Wednesday night as the Cardinals tried to even the series at one game a piece.

Meacham, who didn't factor into the decision, pitched six decent innings, giving up just three runs before turning the ball over to the bullpen.

Zachary Zuercher came in in the seventh inning pitching 1.1 innings of scoreless relief giving up just one hit. But it was Brian G. Stitt, the Cardinals third pitcher of the night who was saddled with the loss, giving up three runs in the 8th on two hits, one of them a home run.

Going into the eight inning it was neck and neck as both teams had scored three runs a piece, but in the bottom of the eight the Mets scored three runs off of Stitt and the Cardinals came back to score only two more runs in the top of the night, as their defense of their Florida State League Championship came to a close, just one run shy of keep their hopes for a repeat alive for another day.
