Izzy's Surgery Scheduled For Thursday

Isringhausen, who is out for the year, has decided to have surgery for his degenerative hip condition.

After a full day of consultation with hip arthroscopy specialists, Jason Isringhausen has decided to undergo arthroscopic left hip surgery Thursday, September 21. The operation will be performed by Dr. J. Thomas Byrd in Nashville.

Isringhausen, who has not pitched since September 6 at Washington, will begin therapy within a few days after the surgery, but there is no timetable for his return, with there being significant concern that he may not be ready to start the season on time next year.

The injury has contributed to Isringhausen's disappointing season, blowing a career-high 10 saves in 43 opportunities, in addition to eight losses, also a career-high or low as a reliever, however you want to look at it.

In his last 10 appearances this season, dating back to August 17, leading up to the decision to have surgery, Izzy was 1-3 with a 6.23 ERA and four saves.
